“The mental and physical strain of living with a terminal disease can take its toll,” said Makinlee’s mom.
Makinlee is an active 10-year-old girl who loves jumping on her trampoline, riding her hoverboard and electric scooter, and competing in gymnastics. While she was born with cystic fibrosis, this girl does not sit still!
Makinlee is inspired by athletes, so she wished to meet her favorite surfer on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Not only did she hang out with her new celebrity friend and surf in Hanelei Bay, but she also went swimming with dolphins and visited sea turtles.

Still, Makinlee’s medicine and treatments can limit her energy, so finding out that she was going to have a wish granted by Make-A-Wish was a real bright spot.

After Makinlee's wish was granted, she sees things in a different light. She met such an inspirational person and she hopes to be someone else’s ‘inspiration’ to get through this crazy thing called life!
